Why we showcase Kaiko Fidgets at Never Grey
Where thoughtful brands and meaningful design take centre stage, Kaiko Fidgets stands out for all the right reasons. More than just a fidget store, it’s a deeply personal, purpose-driven brand that has redefined what sensory tools can look and feel like - especially for teens and adults who have long been overlooked.
Based in Australia, Kaiko Fidgets was co-founded by Kai, a young creator who is both autistic and dyslexic, and who has lived experience of anxiety. Kai's journey began not in a boardroom, but in the classroom where, at just 11 years old, he started making his own fidgets after being teased for using brightly coloured, childlike designs. Determined to create something that felt more aligned with his identity, Kai turned to metal, crafting pieces that were discreet, tactile, and, crucially, “cool.”
Making the Unpopular popular
What happened next was unexpected. Instead of standing out for the wrong reasons, Kai’s designs began attracting attention, classmates wanted them, too. As with many accessible designs, when you design for one, you design for many, With the support of his parents, Joanne, an occupational therapist, and Mike, Kai took his creations to local markets, selling 75 fidgets on his first day. It quickly became clear that his idea wasn’t just personal, it was needed and Kai's simple but effective idea filled a gap in the market.
Today, Kaiko Fidgets has grown into a brand with a clear and powerful mission: to create sensory tools that are completely and unapologetically designed for teens and adults. In a market saturated with products aimed at children, Kaiko has carved out a space that feels different, one that is inclusive, respectful, and deeply in tune with its community.
Neurospice is Cool
Every piece in the collection is carefully selected or designed by a proudly “neurospicy” team, ensuring that the range is both age-appropriate and genuinely supportive. The products are discreet, quiet, and portable, designed to slip easily into a pocket or rest unnoticed in the hand, making them suitable for everyday use, whether at school, work, or on the go. But these aren’t just accessories, they are tools with purpose. From spiked designs that support harm minimisation and reduce picking behaviours and to rhythmic rollers and chain fidgets that aid stimming to softer, soothing pieces like caterpillar designs, each item is created with real needs in mind. Many products have even been developed in response to direct feedback from customers, reflecting Kaiko’s commitment to listening, evolving, and innovating.
A Family Business
The name itself is a reflection of family and collaboration, a blend of Kai and his younger brother Kobi’s names. Kobi is now stepping into his own role within the business, has already begun his “fidget-making apprenticeship”. This growing family business has a legacy and for Kai, the impact has been profound. What began as a way to cope has transformed into something far greater, a source of confidence, purpose, and connection. And through Nevergrey, Kaiko Fidgets is reaching even more people who are searching for tools that feel right for them.
Because at its core, Kaiko isn’t just about fidgets, it’s about dignity, self-expression, and the simple, powerful belief that everyone deserves to feel comfortable being themselves. This is a core value for us at Never Grey.
