September is National Deaf Awareness month. Globally, the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that more than 1.5 billion people (nearly 20% of the global population) live with some degree of hearing loss, and by 2050, this number is projected to increase to 2.5 billion, which is a staggering number.

Sadly hearing aids, which many people rely on, look very impersonal and unflattering, but at last there is a range of designers who are working to change that for the d/Deaf community. They are creating eye-catching  solutions to give users a more fashionable flair to their match their personality

We have found two great brands to showcase:

Deafmetal

Designed in Finland by jewellery designer Jenni Ahtiainen, Deafmetal was created when her designs went viral from a social media post. Deafmetal's wide range covers earrings for hearing aids, earphones and cochlear implants. Their necklaces, as their earrings with chains, are designed so there are no lost hearing aids.

Auzi

Dec McLaughlin was born with partial deafness in both ears and has worn hearing aids his entire life. He became frustrated with the lack of progress and boring 'beige' designs and only wore one device when he needed two due to the lingering stigma he felt. Now he proudly wears the lightweight hearing aid covers designed by certified Gemologist, Daniela Groza.

Auzi's handcrafted hearing aids covers use premium materials and are specially designed to fit all BTE and RIC hearing aids. Their bespoke designs are built to last, and with plans to launch a cochlear cover range their luxury, personalised jewellery makes you stand out, not fade away.
