From a life-changing accident came new beginnings

Lady Sharon's journey with disability began after a horse-riding accident on Good Friday in 1999. At the time, she was balancing life with two young children, caring for her horse, and running a busy family household.

Following an operation in 2010 that unfortunately did not go to plan, Sharon was left needing crutches permanently. This was devastating for Sharon, as an very active person she did not like slowing down. But rather than allowing her circumstances to define her, Sharon found purpose in helping others feel confident and empowered while using mobility aids.

The story behind Glamsticks

Glamsticks originally started in 2009 but Sharon purchased the business in 2012 and has spent the years since growing it into an internationally recognised brand. Today, Glamsticks products have been shipped around the world, with every item still created with the same passion for individuality as the first pair of crutches 14 years ago.

For Sharon, Glamsticks is about changing perceptions of disability and helping customers feel proud of the mobility aids they use every day.

Glamsticks creates a wide range of customisable mobility aids, including:

  • Walking sticks, including carbon fibre options
  • Open and closed cuff crutches
  • Visual aid canes
  • Wheelchair covers
  • Wrist Bracelets to attach to your mobility aid

Customers can choose from a variety of colours, patterns, embellishments and decorative finishes to create something that feels uniquely their own. Personalised options allow for fully bespoke designs tailored to individual preferences for ergonomic handles, soft-touch handles and ferrules.

Creativity in every step

Many of Glamsticks' most memorable creations begin with a simple conversation. Sometimes customers send detailed ideas, other times, Sharon receives a "very rough" sketch and from there, she works closely with each customer to understand their vision and determine what's possible.

"I can start to make it in my mind. Don't get me wrong, some things are impossible to fit on a stick or a crutch, but I always try my best before I say yes or no."

This collaborative approach allows customers to be involved in the creative process while benefiting from Sharon's years of experience designing bespoke mobility aids.

When it comes to bestsellers, Sharon says the most popular walking stick is the adjustable walking stick, available in a wide range of colours and finishes and for crutches, one design consistently stands out. "Diamonds Are" remains a customer favourite, bringing a touch of sparkle and glamour to everyday life.

Attention to Detail

At Glamsticks, mobility aids are more than practical tools, they’re an opportunity for self-expression, confidence and individuality. From the range of designs there are customisable options and the bespoke designs are developed to bring a vision to life, but every item is carefully handcrafted to ensure it meets the customer's vision while maintaining the functionality and durability required for everyday use.

Building a business creating accessible products that support people with disabilities has been a labour of love for Sharon.

"Making people with disabilities happy, both young and old, is what makes it all worthwhile."
