Meet the Founders of Wuffable

At the heart of Wuffable are Phil and Liz Orme, a husband and wife duo and beloved pet dog, Sunny, who, with the support and training of the charity Dog Aid, became an ADUK-accredited assistance dog.

Liz, who lives with FSH Muscular Dystrophy and is a full-time wheelchair user with complex care needs and Phil is ‘Mr. Wuffable’ and is the main caregiver for Liz.

The origins of Wuffable

Wuffable launched in 2017 with some basic sewing and printing skills to create a vest for Sunny whilst she was training with Dog Aid. Phil and Liz wanted a way to make it clear to the public that she was learning an important job as she practised settling in cafes and other public spaces.

After making that first vest, there was some surplus fabric and Liz decided to make a few more as she found this creative process therapeutic and it helped to alleviate some of frustrations with not being able to participate in the activities she once loved.

Encouraged by this, the couple invested in a larger embroidery machine and expanded the product range from there. It was a natural evolution, born from necessity, to suit the needs of people with assistant dogs.

Where Wuffable is now

Wuffable now manufacture advocacy gear for all kinds of dogs. Whether it’s assistance dogs, therapy dogs, service dogs, or search and rescue dogs. They provide vests, bandanas, lead wraps, patches, bags, and mats to raise awareness and show respect to important role assistance dogs have to do day-to-day.

As a small team of disabled people and carers, Wuffable have a solid understanding of the products that are truly needed, based on lived experience. Their talented graphic design team brings these ideas to life, and Phil and Liz ensure their products are tested by real users for practical feedback. This process allows Wuffable to refine their offerings before they launch new lines.

Their collection is continually growing as they design new products but the customer favourites are still the vests and settle mats. Many of their customers opt for complete sets for their working dogs, including lead slips, leads and ID cards.

Wuffable love providing comprehensive solutions for their customers and welcome ideas from the community to meet their diverse needs but their fabric suppliers play a crucial role. To ensure they can deliver consistent colours that meet uniform requirements whilst considering the impact on the environment, they prioritise working with fabric that has an environmental accreditation as Phil and Liz are committed to moving toward a more sustainable future.

What is the future for Wuffable?

Sunny has retired but continues to lend a helping paw to Liz in her everyday life and Wuffable continues to grow. They are now venturing into the domain of products for anxious and reactive dogs and they hope to make these available in high street pet shops soon.

Wuffable deliver excellent customer service and reliability and so do we. Never Grey only platform brands we believe in and we are excited about the innovations that lie ahead for Wuffable. They are ahead of their time and have taken the lead (see what we did there?) on designing and creating much-needed products for an overlooked market.
